About This Item
Garden City: Doubleday and Co.. Near Fine in Very Good dust jacket. 1968. First Edition; First Printing. Hardcover. Autograph; 222 pages; Inscribed and Signed on halftitle -- "To Rowly and Kay / who are wonderful / friends of all the Kennedys / Ted Kennedy / December 1968" ; otherwise contents clean and secure in original binding in very nice dustjacket with minor rubbing at spine ends and edges, a shallow chip at top edge of rear panel (now in protective mylar cover). Edward "Ted" Moore Kennedy was an American politician and lawyer who served as a U.S. Senator from Massachusetts for almost 47 years, from 1962 until his death in 2009. He was the youngest of the four Kennedy brothers - Joe, Jack, Bobby and Ted. When this book was written, Ted Kennedy was the youngest member of the United States Senate and was looking towards a run for President in the 1970s. Inscribed to Mr. and Mrs. Rowland Evans, a provocative newspaper columnist, commentator and author who antagonized liberal politicians and championed conservative causes. Mr. Evans and Robert Novak began their work as columnists in the early 1960's, a time when newspaper columnists wielded outsize influence in national politics. The pair pioneered in transferring that influence to the medium of cable television with the political discussion program ''Evans & Novak'' -- carried on CNN from that cable network's beginning. Rowland Evans and his wife Kay (Katherine Winton Evans), also a respected writer and editor, were mainstays on the Washington social scene, hosting many memorable gatherings in their handsome Georgetown house -- to which flocked influential and remarkable people drawn from journalism, politics and general society over the decades from the 1960s to the 2000s. Kay and Rowland Evans had a particularly close friendship with Robert F. Kennedy, Sr. and his wife Ethel and were also chummy with the rest of the Kennedy family. ; Signed by Author .
