About This Item

1590 Mark of Lisbon Silva FRANCISCAN Chronicle Friars Portugal Venice MONASTIC

Mark of Lisbon, or 'da Silva', was a 16th-century Portuguese historian and bishop who was known for his contributions to the history and development of the Franciscan order. His most important book on the subject was 'Chronicle of the Minor Friars' – a collection of documents from the 15th-century pertaining to the Franciscan Order. The work is mostly a series of biographical sketches of the men of the most illustrious men from that era of monastics including descriptions of friars such as Giovanna da Citina, Bartolomeo da Pisa, Beato Tomaso, Roberto Malatesta, Alberto da Sartiano, and many others.
