New binding. A very little age-darkening of pages.. Flyleaf bears handwritten "George Jeffrey, Nicosia, 12-XI-29" presumably in Jeffrey's hand; flyleaf also has "ghost" of another document, wherein the outline of the signature of medievalist John L. La Monte can be made out. Front and rear boards slightly flared, otherwise, condition is excellent: binding new and tight, all pages clear, bright and unmarked, no tears. Initials "K.M.S." on spine refer to K.M. Setton (1914-1995) of the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton, who had the volume rebound.

George H. Everett Jeffery (1855–1935) was an architect whose works include the Anglican Cathedral in Jerusalem, the English College and memorial to Queen Victoria in Nicosia and St. Edward's Church in Lugano. He was Curator of Ancient Monuments in Cyprus from 1903 until his death.

Lord Kitchener's 1882 Survey of Cyprus forms the basis for this detailed, professional and expert accounting of the historical monuments of Cyprus, published in 1918 and frequently reprinted .since.

Description:
The War with Catiline
Sallust
Translated by John C. Rolfe
The War with Catiline, also known as the Catiline (Latin: De coniuratione Catilinae or Bellum Catilinae) is the first story published by the Roman historian Salustius. It is a chronicle of the attempt to overthrow the Roman rule taken by Catiline in 63 BC, probably written between 44 and 40 BC, 20 years after the events described. The story begins with a short introduction about the nature of man, history, and the short autobiography of Salustius himself. Later, the historian describes Catiline himself and presents his political ambitions. According to Salustius, Catiline is an enemy of law, order, and morality. It is a model of all the behaviors that the writer considers to be disastrous for Rome.
