A first edition, first impression of this novel by Anthony Burgess, based on his experiences in Bandar Seri Begawan. The fourth of Burgess' 'exotic novels', the novel is set in an imaginary caliphate named Dunia, and follows an Italian father and son who are in the process of constructing an enormous mosque from marble. It is loosely based on Burgess' experiences in Bandar Seri Begawan, on the island of Borneo. Written by Anthony Burgess, best known for his satire 'A Clockwork Orange'. As well as being a prolific novelist and translator, Burgess composed over two hundred and fifty musical works, although his success as a writer was far greater. In the publisher's original cloth binding, with the original unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, cloth is very smart and bright. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean. Dust wrapper remains smart but is somewhat sunned. Fine
