Reprinted chiefly from the Edinburgh and Westminster Reviews. Ex-lib item with typical marks (library bookplate present to the reverse of the front board). Bound in cloth boards with titles present to the spine. Boards have shelf-wear present to the extremities (edges scuffed and worn with fading present to the spine, spine ends are chipped and worn). Front hinge weak. No ownership marks present. Text is clean and free of marks. Binding tight and solid. Even the scattered thoughts of a great thinker are worth pondering, and here are the "miscellaneous productions" of John Stuart Mill, one of the foremost intellectuals of the late 19th century. This four-volume set, collected by the author and first published in book form in 1867, are writings originally appearing in periodicals that Mill considered "desirable to preserve." English philosopher and politician JOHN STUART MILL (1806-1873) served as an administrator in the East Indian Company from 1823 to 1858, and as a member of parliament from 1865 to 1868. Among his essays on a wide range of political and social thought are Principles ofPolitical Economy (1848) , Considerations on Representative Government (1861) , and The Subjection of Women (1869).
