Account of Frances Milton Trollope (mother of writer Anthony Trollope) of her 1827 trip to America, including a visit to the utopian Tennessee community of Nashoba founded to educate & emancipate slaves, and her stay in Cincinnati. An early critique of American exceptionalism.

8vo, 304pp; 303pp, illustrations throughout. Original publisher's dark blue cloth, printed paper title labels at spine. Spines sunned and labels dusty; chipped top of spine. Internally, frontispiece Vol I detached but present. Previous owner stamp at front end papers. Fox spotting to margins of a few plates.

Synopsis
