About This Item

Hartford, CT: Andrus & Judd, 1834. Hardcover. Good+. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. See photos for condition details. Hardcovers, two-volume matched set bound in full leather with gilt on spine, and both boards are framed in gilt. The leather is in its original state and has not been treated. Both books show scuffing and soiling with wear to the leather being more severe on spine and edges. Corners also worn. The internal bindings of the text portion of the pages are tight in both books, but there are a few issues: volume 1 has a small area of holes in the upper right corner of the frontispiece and is missing the first blank front end page. What is shown has a large signature done in pencil, which may be erased, if desired. There is also a stamping in both volumes which reads "First Brethren Church Library", which is the only marking showing this came from a Church's private library. Volume 2 shows a partial signature (upside down) on the rear end page, which is done in pen. These are the only markings found in both volumes. Pages in both books show foxing throughout, with some pages being moderately severe. Nothing torn or loose, though pages are toned due to age. Volume 1 contains 406 pages, volume 2 contains 478 pages plus the glossary.. Both volumes also have numerous illustrations. The misspelling of "Shakspeare" is something that started around 1785, with this spelling version being preferred by many writers during the Victorian era. The overall book condition of the set with typically grade as VG-, but the condition was lowered because of volume 1 missing the blank front end page.

Yesterday's Book shop is owned and operated by a disabled veteran. Due to my limitations, I often have to rely on speech-to-text software to list the books. If the description has typos ("and pages" instead of "end pages", pace downs instead of pastedowns, guilt instead of gilt, etc,) PLEASE let me know so I can correct the listing. The software spells words by phonetics and can make errors that I may not catch.

There is a 30 day money back guarantee if the book arrives damaged or is not as described. Please contact us prior if you have any issues with your purchases and we will make sure you are taken care of.

About Yesterday's Book Shop (Member IOBA)

Yesterday's Book Shop is an independent, family-owned establishment. The store first opened in 1966 under the name Collector's Corner and was located in Western Maryland. The Collector's Corner dealt mainly in books but also sold stamps and assorted ephemera. In 1975 the name was changed to Yesterday's Book Shop when the store only offered books and printed matter. In the early 2000s the brick and mortar store was closed and now we only sell online.

All of the book pictures were taken at the time the book was listed and we never use generic or stock photos in any listing. If you would like additional photos or information on any listing please let us know and we will be more than happy to comply.
