Ravan Press, Johannesburg, 1974. 1st Edition. Hardcover. Good/Fair. 134 pages (complete). First edition of Coetzee's first published novel. Original jacket. The dustjacket has a clear plastic protective cover. The dj itself is benign with some damp stains around the spine area. The rest of the dj is pastoral and amiable. The boards have residue from the dj damp. These are confined to a small area at the foot of the boards. Otherwise, the boards are neat and pleasant. Within, the title page has a small mark, despite this the contents are placid, clean, clear, sure, fresh, serene. fk. Our orders are shipped using tracked courier delivery services.

Synopsis

Dusklands (1974) is the first novel by J. M. Coetzee, winner of the 2003 Nobel Prize in Literature. It is a presentation and critique of the violence inherent in the colonialist and imperialist mentality of the Western world. The novel actually consists of two separate stories. The first one, "The Vietnam Project", relates the gradual descent into insanity of its protagonist Eugene Dawn. Eugene works for a U.S. government agency responsible for the psychological warfare in the Vietnam War.
