About This Item
London: Collins, 1953. First edition. Hardback. Ex-W. H. Smith Library book with usual plate inside front cover. A reading copy only as gilt has faded on spine, a few ends of pages have disappeared, and some evidence of end pages about to come away. But no annotations or inscriptions and otherwise a good reading copy. A sensible price for what is otherwise a relatively scarce first edition of one of this writers last novels. Rediscovered by Virago press, Lehman is now seen as one of the first female novelists of her time to show that women's lives could be just as interesting as those of men. .
