About This Item

London: Sampson Low, Marston, Searle & Rivington, 1890. Second Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. Publisher's original dark red hardback with illustrations to upper cover and spine, professionally and skilfully re-cased. Firm and square,, strong joints, just darkened, rubbed, slightly edge-worn and showing a few smudges and marks. Contents evenly toned, nonetheless sound and tight; endpapers renewed; no pen-marks and not from a library so no such stamps or labels. Size: 8vo (230mm x 150mm); collation: pp. xxiv, 490, [2, adverts], complete with fold-out plates and map, and numerous other illustrations within the text. Fully indexed. Emin Pasha (1840-1892) was governor of the Egyptian province of Equatoria on the upper Nile. By 1886, Emin and most of his forces were cut off from the outside world by the army of Karam Allah. Thus the Emin Pasha Relief Expedition, led by Henry Morton Stanley, undertook to rescue Emin by going up the Congo River and through the Ituri Forest. This is an account of that extraordinarily difficult journey.
