About This Item

London: George Bell, 1849. No marks or inscriptions. No creasing to covers or to spine. Very clean very tight pages with minimal tanning. Full leather boards with fine embossing and some surface rubbing, slightly darkened towards the fore edge. Intact gilt lettering to spine with raised bands and embossed repeating motif. All page edges gilt with spectacularly beautiful intricate design to the gilt. Attached silk bookmark ribbon. 152pp. These essays on morals and philosophy described as inherent and desirable in the English Gentleman were written by the author for his two younger brothers and subsequently published in early editions of the Theologian. The work is described as an 1849 re-print and is probably the closest in existence to the real first edition. Extremely scarce.. Leather. Very Good (+)/No Jacket. 6.5 x 4.25 inches.
