Sotheby's, London, auction catalogue for the sale held on 17th December, 1998. Laminated illustrated wrappers, 4to, 27 cm,. 216 pp, plates, ills. 493 lots. Among the highlights noted were the following: the Norman L Rosenbaum collection of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and John Harrison's "journal" documenting his dealings with the Board of Longitude, also including the A W Kinglake archive relating to the Crimean war including Lord Cardigan's personal accounts of the Charge of the Light Brigade, important letters by Cardinal Pole to the Papacy concerning the religious crisis in England under Henry VIII, a document signed by the poet George Herbert and his brothers Edward and Henry, Wordsworth's "Poetical works" of 1827 with his largely unpublished autograph revisions, the literary archive of Martin Seymour-Smith, fine letters and manuscripts by T E Lawrence, G B Shaw, Mark Twain, Rudyard Kipling, Thomas Hardy, Charles Darwin, J D Hooker, Vita Sackville-West, Dylan Thomas, Ian Fleming and others.
