Printed wraps, housed in a beige clothbound folders in matching slipcases. 267,238, 140 pp. Illustrations by Gabrielle Bouffay throughout. All text in French. Collection of fables by Fontaine, accompanied by black and white illustrations. La Fontaine is considered one of the key fabulists, and one of the most influential early French writers, who served not only to inspire and shape French literature, but also fabulists of other countries as well. VERY GOOD books in GOOD slipcases. Minor toning and a hint of soiling to the wrappers. Volume 1 with a scuff mark to its front cover. Many pages unopened throughout each volume. Heavy fading to the slipcases, with some fraying and splitting along the extremities, including a notable split to the lower hinge (near opening) of volume 1.
