An authoritative compilation of French fables and tales from the eleventh to the fifteenth-centuries published, with extensive scholarly dissertations on the origins of French and Celtic languages by philologist Etienne Barbazan (1696-1770). First printed in three volumes in 1756, with the addition of a fourth volume in 1808, the set is here presented with the two volumes of additional later material contributed by Romanist Dominique Martin Meon (1748-1829). Each of the six volumes contains suites of three plates, comprising the final state of the frontispiece with two earlier proof states.
