Derrydale Books, New York, 1979. First Edition Thus. Hardcover. Good/Good. Illustrator: Richard Doyle. 540 g.; VIII, 64 pages, last page blank, foreword by editor, list of illustrations. Bright blue coloured endpapers. The text is illustrated with 29 single page colour illustrations and 10 double page colour illustrations or executed by Richard Doyle. Illustrated covers (wraparound), with white background and gold and blue titles to the front panel and backstrip. A little bumping to the book corners and rubbing to the backstrip edges. Some brown marks to the top book edge. Gift inscription to the top right-hand corner of the free front end paper. Illustrated dustwrapper, same illustration as the underlying board, with gold and blue titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and creasing to the dustwrapper corners. Rubbing to the top act strip edge and a little chipping to the lower backstrip edge. Some yellowing of the white background and a few marks to the laminate. There is a 0.75 " tear to the lower right-hand corner of the rear dustwrapper panel, a previous owner has supported this tear with tape to the verso of the dustwrapper, tape still in situ. Foxing to the extreme top edge of the dustwrapper, noticeable on the verso of the dustwrapper. This book was first published in 1869, and this is a re-print using the original illustrator's drawings. The number line of the book reads a b c d e f g h, and so is a first edition thus. " Summary: the King and Queen of the country next to fairyland long for a child and are finally blessed with a daughter, the Princess Niente." -- from the verso of the title page. 19th-century children's book with the most delightful illustrations.
