Original blue cloth lettered and ruled in silver to the spine, in the dustwrapper illustrated by Joanna Stubbs. A fine copy, the binding square and firm, the contents clean throughout. Short closed tear (c. 1 cm) to the upper edge of the front panel, discreetly sealed with tape from underside. Not price-clipped (15s. net to the front flap). Signed and dated, "Naomi Mitchison / 1970" to the front free endpaper. Mitchison (1897-1999), born in Edinburgh, travelled widely and was a frequent visitor to Botswana, where this short novel for younger readers is set.
