NY: Thomsen-Ellis Company. Very Good with no dust jacket; Boards worn at corners and spine.. 1938. Hardcover. Quite an elegant little Art Deco number with wood grain patterned paper, cloth spine, and debossed copper foil plaque on front boards. Gilt-accented illustrated endpapers and tipped-in frontispiece illustration. 19 color pochoir illustrations. The book even smells slightly of floral perfume. Laid in is a silver and black printed accordion-fold brochure entitled A Visit to Fashion Academy, further describing the Fashion Academy, with many black and white photos of smartly-dressed students. The Fashion Academy was in operation from 1920-50 and run by Emil Alvin Hartman and his wife, Ann Hartman. In 1930, the Fashion Academy was housed on the 43rd floor in the newly built Rockefeller Plaza tower at Rockefeller Center in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The book speaks only of female students and describes coursework to educate them in various aspects of the fashion industry. "There is no more highly esteemed --no more lucrative--no more modern or progressive profession than that of FASHION." ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 48 pages .
