About This Item
London: Raphael Tuck & Sons, 1895. Paperback. Good. [14] p.: 4 full-page chromolithographed illustrations and many orange-and-black in-text illustrations: 28 cm. Chromolithographed illustrated stiffened paper covers. No date of publication, but probably 1895 or slightly later (imprint includes "Ltd." and lists New York and Paris as places of publication). Identified as part of Father Tuck's Nursery Series on the front cover. Identified on the cover as No. 6554. "Designed at the Studios in England" on the front and back cover. The rhyme for each letter is an alternate version of a well-known rhyme ("N is my little nut-tree, but nothing would it bear--but a silver nutmeg and a nasty pear"), each with an illustration. Former owner's named at head of front cover: Fannie Maier. An amusing ABC and an extremely scarce Raphael Tuck publication. In Good Condition: cover is soiled and scraped; two indentations in back cover that lightly impact pages and front cover; edges rubbed with slight loss of paper at corners; small creases along spine; small stain at lower gutter, not touching illustrations or text; light shadows on pages facing color illustrations; otherwise pages and illustrations are clean and tight.
