About This Item

New York: Macmillan, 1950. Richard Llewellyn achieved instant fame with his first novel of Welsh coalminers, "How Green Was My Valley." "A Few Flowers for Shiner" is his third novel, and is a stated First Printing. Set in wartime Italy, it concerns a Cockney truck driver who attempts a pilgrimage to put flowers on the grave of his mate and gets waylaid by various harrowing adventures. Included is an excellent unclipped dust jacket. The book is in very clean, fine condition, except that the endpapers are heavily browned. (Too much acidity in the end-paper stock used?) The book has light gray covers and blue titles on the front panel and spine. There are no signatures or inscriptions, and the pages are bright and sparkling throughout. The book measures 5 3/4 by 8 1/4 inches and includes 372 pages. The unclipped dust jacket is in fine condition but with one small tear. See photo. . Stated First Printing. Hard Cover. Fine/Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Chap Book.
