Orr and Co, 1844, . . original blind-stamped and gilt decorated cloth, gilt spine title lettering, all edges gilted, spine with large chip at upper edge, edgewear, front blank endpaper removed, interior is clean, minor foxing on few leaves, very good. . 12mo [18 x 12.5 cm]; iv, 515 pp, 11 fine hand-colored plates of flowers including extra hand-colored title page, hand-colored frontis , 8 other plates and plans, numerous illustrations in text, several colored plates by Baxter, index. . An attractive and detailed work by a popular garden writer. The printed title page gives the date as 1838, the date of the first edition, while the hand colored title page gives the date as 1839, stating new edition carefully revised. Catalogue of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society 196. Sitwell (Great Flower Books) p. 117. Some of the colored plates may be by Baxter but are not signed.
