About This Item

London: UK: Collins, 1968. 1st ed. Previous owners name and date on fep, else fine in near fine dust jacket, spine sunned. Unclipped [25s net price intact]. The previous owner's name is Slim Aarons, famous American photographer. Aarons has SIGNED and dated London, 1968 on front endpaper. Almost before the last echoes of the famous guns have died away, the three Navarone heroes are parachuted into war-torn Yugoslavia to rescue a division of partisans and fulfil a secret mission, so deadly that it must be hidden even from their own allies. Film of the same name was loosely based on the novel. The parts of Mallory, Miller and Barnsby are played by Robert Shaw (who died before the film was released), Edward Fox and Harrison Ford, succeeding the roles originally portrayed by Gregory Peck, David Niven, and Richard Harris of the 1961 film TheGuns of Navarone .. Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Fine/Near Fine. Book.

Synopsis

Force 10 from Navarone is a World War II novel by Scottish author Alistair MacLean published in 1968. It is a sequel to MacLean's very popular 1957 The Guns of Navarone, but in terms of plot continuity chooses to follow the also popular 1961 film adaptation, such as including characters who were in the film but not in the book, although it dispenses with the film's major altered back-story.
