About This Item
First hardcover edition, with dust jacket, published by Chatto & Windus, 1964. This is the UK edition. The dust jacket is intact and is not price clipped. After 'The Flame Trees of Thika' and 'The Mottled Lizard', this is Huxley's third memoir on her experiences in Africa. This one is focused on her three month trip in 1963 to Kenya, Uganda, and Tanganyika. Jacket design and illustrations by Jonathan Kingdon. 272 pages, blue cloth covered boards. The jacket has been protected with a clear, removable cover. There is a 1" X 1" chip to the heel of the spine, some sun fading to the spine though all type is still legible, smaller chip to the head of the spine about 1/4" X 1/4". Edge wear and age tanning blocks to the jacket as well. Boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or creased. Spots of sun fading to the spine where the dust jacket chips are located, as well as some lighter sun fading throughout the spine portion, and some sun fading to the top edge as well. Gift dedication on the first flyleaf, it was then later partially erased. Stain mark to the top left side of page 12, about 1/4" deep and 1" long - looks like a drop of coffee - affects the edges of pages 1-12. No further writing besides the gift dedication. Binding is tight and square. Not a library discard. The attached photo is of the copy we have in our inventory.
