Complete in two volumes. Volume one is the thirty-second edition released in 1900. Volume two is the twelfth edition released in 1897, the same year as the first. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece and seventeen plates. Volume two is illustrated with a frontispiece and fourteen plates. Collated complete. The life of Field-Marshal Frederick Sleigh Roberts, 1st Earl Roberts, a British general who became one of the most successful British military commanders of his time. Born in India, he joined the East India Company Army and served as a young officer in the Indian Rebellion during which he was awarded the Victoria Cross for gallantry. With details of his time in India from birth to his transfer to the British Army. In the original blue cloth binding. Externally, sound with rubbing and bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and marks to the boards. Splits in the cloth to the head of the spine of volume one with fading to the cloth and minor fraying. Hinges starting with front hinge to volume one tender. Internally, generally firmly bound with endpapers loosening to volume one. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot or handling mark. A small closed tear to the front endpaper of volume one. Good Only
