About This Item
New York, 1951. unbound. Outstanding and important letter, 4 pages, each two-page spread measuring 5.25 x 7.75 inches, New York, April 29, 1951. Written to liberal New York State Supreme Court Justice and author Bernard L. Shintag, in small part: "...In returning this masterful book - I thank you most sincerely for helping to increase my modest knowledge of the law and the philosophies which govern - and sometimes misgovern - its operations. The law is a dynamic and not a static fact of life. Therefore its interpretation depends largely on the Judges who interpret it. As a citizen, I am grateful for such judges as Holmes, Brandeis, Frankfurter, Cardoza and Shientag..." Much more great content. At the time this letter was written, Sarnoff was arguably one of the most powerful men in the United States. He controlled NBC and RCA with an iron fist and was nicknamed "The General" due to his staunch hands-on conservative policies. It is ironic that he would be grateful to four of the most liberal Justices to have ever served on the United Supreme Court, especially when their views on Antitrust were a constant threat to his media empire. Tiny chip partially affecting one word on the second page; staple holes at the edge of the natural fold. Very good(-) condition.

Russian-born American pioneer businessman who founded the National Broadcasting Company (NBC) and the Radio Corporation of America (RCA).
