Inscribed and SIGNED by the author on ffep to his classmate from the Harvard University Class of 1915. Includes a bit on big game hunting with Theodore Roosevelt. Robert Winthrop Kean (1893 – 1980) was an American Republican Party politician and member of one of the nation's oldest and longest serving political families. He served in the National Guard and later in the U.S. Army during World War I under the command of General John J. Pershing, earning the rank of lieutenant, the Silver Star, and the Distinguished Service Cross. Kean became involved in politics at a young age, observing the Inauguration of President Theodore Roosevelt in 1905. Young Kean was a Roosevelt supporter, although his uncle and father had publicly endorsed the incumbent President, William Howard Taft. After the war, Kean worked in investment banking in New Jersey and New York City, heading a firm known as Kean, Taylor & Company. He was a founder of the Livingston National Bank. Kean became U.S. congressman in 1938, representing New Jersey's 12th congressional district serving ten terms in that role. During his twenty years in Congress, Kean served as Ranking Minority Member of the House Ways and Means Committee and on the House Banking and Currency Committee. He was considered an expert on Social Security and Taxation law, and was called "Mr. Social Security" in Washington.; Signed by Author .
