Paris: Charles Massin, 1905. First edition. Hardcover. fair. Folio. 11, [1] (text), 100 loose plates, as issued (Vol.1) [8]pp (text), 100 loose plates, as issued (Vol.2). Original half red cloth over burgundy morocco portfolio with gold lettering on front covers and spines. String ties. Vignette on each title page. Stunning collection of classical Greek and Roman architectural reconstruction reproduced in heliogravure. The selections show a true care and attention to detail in bringing these design elements back to life and the renderings are simply splendid. First volume has heavy dampstaining and abrasion on portfolio. Spine and joints repaired with tan cloth. Half-title sunned. Sporadic dampstaining along fore-edge of plates (not affecting images, except for plates #4 and 44). Spine of second volume partly torn, and moderate rubbing on covers. Previous owner's stamp on inside of covers, half-titles, and at lower margin of plates (Russell E. Collins). Text and captions in French. Portfolios in overall poor, interior of first volume in good-, interior of second volume in good+, images in very good condition.
