Small rather fat brown hardcover with gold lettering on spine and black design on front cover, same design stamped but not blacked on back cover, 5th (1884) edition, Appleton, 589pp + ads. Cover has slight wear plus worn through on outer tips. Binding tight and square. Front endpaper slightly split but cover still firmly held. Birth/death info of author in fine pencil on title page otherwise no marks or writing.
