New York: Dutton, 1972 Pictorially stamped green cloth boards; in a color pictorial dust jacket with one closed tear and light rubbing at edges, award seal affixed to front panel, price intact. Retold from an old Japanese tale is the story of a funny little woman who likes to laugh, "Tee-he-he-he." One day one of her rice dumplings rolls from the table and leads the funny little woman on a rather precarious journey. Fantastic, Japanese inspired drawings illustrate the story, done by Blair Lent. The book won the Caldecott Medal for 1973.. Stated First Edition. Fine/Very Good. Square 4to.
