Great Barrington, MA: Penmaen Press, 1983. Very good + condition. This is an engraving by Michael McCurdy of Gerard Manley Hopkins, from a work on the famed British poet. The print depicts Hopkins in three quarter profile, facing to the right. He wears a dapper hat and small black bow tie, and is outlined against a leafy landscape. Titled and signed below the print, in pencil.
Gerard Manley Hopkins (1844 - 1889) is regarded as a leading Victorian poet who influenced T. S. Eliot and Dylan Thomas among others.
McCurdy (1942 - 2016) was a noted American author and illustrator, recognized for his trademark b&w woodblock engravings. He was also the founder of Penmaen Press in Boston.
A fine copy handsomely mounted for presentation in a large maroon mat by a New York literary agent, with printed title on verso. 5 1/4 x 6 3/4", mat 16 x 19 1/2"
