Gans iz Doliny Igrushek

by Morlei, Margaret

Condition: See description

Moscow: Posrednik, 1930. Second edition; 5 3/4 x 9; pp. [2], 5-101, [3] including text to last page; original pictorial wraps; age-toning to margins of covers; some loss of paper to spine (pages and covers securely attached); thin closed vertical cut to tail of spine; illustrated with engravings and from paintings; previous owner's signature to title page; overall good to very good. 1 of 5000 copies. Incredibly bright and vibrant cover art by one of Russia's topmost Constructivism artists - Nikolai Troshin. He was artist-in-chief of 'USSR in Construction' Magazine and together with his wife Olga Deineko - also famous Avant Garde artist - they designed numerous posters, and children's and photography books. A beautiful edition of Margaret Morley's "Donkey John of the Toy Valley." Not in OCLC. Children's books of the period were typically printed in very large numbers, thus an edition of 5000 was extremely uncommon. Furthermore, the books were voraciously read and precious few have survived in good condition.
