London: The Gresham Publishing Company Limited, 1902. Quarter Leather. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" Large. Type: Z A lovely copy of this two volume set, published as a new edition, revised and entirely remodelled under the direction and general editorship of William Watson. Illustrated with 8 full page charming colour plates to each volumes, including frontispiece plates and 12 full page b/w plates to volume I and 18 full page b/w plates to volume II - all as called for. There are numerous other illustrations in the text to both volumes. Bound in quarter green leather with gilt embossed lettering to the red leather title blocks to the spines. Marbled fore edges. The spines are uniformly faded to brown. Volume I - 656pp. Light fading to the spine with rubbing to the head and tail of the spine. Ligth rubbing to the corners of the boards with slight fraying of the cloth. Light scattered soiling to the boards. Light foxing to the end papers and to the half title page and the last page of the book. A few of the tissue guards. Neat crease to the top corner of the tissue guard to the frontispiece plate and a few tissue guards have slight scattered foxing, not affecting the plates in anyway. Clean and tight. Volume II - the spine has faded to a uniform brown colour. Rubbing to the head and tail of the spine and light rubbing to the corners of the boards. Light rubbing to the rear board. Ther front inner hinge has been repaired wityh masking tape - the board is firmly attached. Slight foxing to the end papers. Light foxing to the tissue guard of the frontispiece plate. Clean and tight. A well preserved copy of this two volume set.
