About This Item

London: Longmans, Green, and Co, 1905. Very Good. London: Longmans, Green, and Co., 1905. First Edition with publisher's advertisements dated "10,000/9/04 - A.U.P." at bottom of p. 40. Thick octavo; publisher's blue cloth, gilt-lettered spine, top edge gilt; xii,404,40pp.; frontispiece and twenty-four (24) leaves of photographs. Spine rather toned as is top third of upper cover, small chips at spine crown, unobtrusive evidence of previously removed ex libris to front pastedown, else Very Good, internally clean and sound.

Written in the same spirit as Haggard's 1899 work "A Farmer's Year," in this case stemming from notebooks kept during the year 1903 when the author planned and planted a garden on his substantial estate.

[Scott 43; Whatmore NF6].
