[LGBTQ] [Poster] LGBTQ Rights March - 1979. Black and White-printed poster promoting the first ever National March pon Washington for LGBTQ rights in Washington DC; features the images of planes, trains and automobiles with an image of the capitol building. Measures 17.5" x 23". Poster displays large text reading: "Catch the Freedom Train to Washington" in large lettering at the top. Beneath, text reads: "The National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights October 14, 1979." Additional smaller text states: "Join your brothers and sister from all over the U.S. as we come together in the nation's capital to declare and celebrate freedom!" Also included are a list of events taking place including the march and rally with speakers and entertainers, the 3rd World LesbianGay conference, a Gay Business breakfast, a gay sports expo,l a disco, bluegrass festival and religious service. The first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights took place on October 14, 1979 in response to Reagan's imminent presidency, LGBTQ intolerance, and the recent assassination of Californian politician Harvey Milk. The march began at the Capitol and terminated at the Washington Monument and drew 125,000 gay men, lesbians, bisexual people, transgender people, and straight allies to demand equal civil rights and urge the passage of protective civil rights legislation. March was helped organized by Harvey Milk prior to his assassination. Speakers included Harry Britt, Allen Ginsberg, Audre Lorde, Leonard Matlovich, and, Adele Starr (the first PFLAG president), among others. Poster is folded with only minor creasing. Overall, in very good condition.
