About This Item

J. Schlesinger's Buchhandlung, 1902. Hardcover. Fair/No Jacket. Fair 1902, J. Schlesinger's Buchhandlung, Wein (Vienna). Text in German Fraktur script and Hebrew, in parallel columns. Small hardcover, 5 x 7 inches, has boards and spine that are covered in thin cream-colored faux ivory sheets. All four boards have rounded brass edging; fore-edge has small hinged decorative brass clasp. Front cover of book has brass plate with stamped decorations and curved cut-outs. Carved faux ivory panels are mounted with small brass nails atop brass plate, forming an elaborate frame around section with dark velvet background and central brass representation of the 10 Commandment tablets. All page edges gilt. Brown and white floral pattern endpapers. Translated, with explanatory notes, by I. N. Mannheimer. 468 pages. Bound back to back with: Andachtsbuch: Deutsche Gebete fur Hauslischen und offentishen Andacht, by M. E. Stern. 38 pages, starting at the other cover. Index between works. Thin faux ivory covering on front cover is peeling and torn at hinge edge; bottom has a piece of clear adhesive tape over another tear. Two pieces of faux ivory decorations are missing, as are some brass nails. Velvet is worn. Brass edging on back cover is pulled away from fore edge of board; clasp is intact and still closes. Pages are lightly tanned. All but last 60 pages have a moisture stain at the top corner; does not affect text. Small hole near fore edge of rear endpaper. Carefully packed, shipped in a box.
