Kirus Reviews noted: "An art book of impressive dimensions is the outcome of fine teamwork between M. Samivel, a French documentary film-maker, and Michel Audrain, a photographer. Though some of the pictures are Samivel's, most by far are Audrain's and with the author's incisive text, they present ancient Egypt in a new perspective. In his forty page essay and annotations for the plates, Samivel covers the reaches of Nile civilization from the delta and the pyramids to Abu Simbel and the second cataract and imbues Egyptology with his own well thought out and original theories. For example, his own attitude towards the spiritual value of mountains enables him to say convincingly that the pyramids were link-forming mountains between man and the heavens, the source and supply of all energy. His proposals for ancient building processes are unique and likely too. The plates following the essay are arranged by region and interrupted with translations from Egyptian writings that gain freshness as one reads and looks. A book for pleasure and study, this should find welcome from all Egypto-philes.
