Little, Brown & Co, 1935. First Thus. First printing. Octavo (20cm.); green pictorial publisher's cloth-backed boards w/ gilt lettering, in yellow pictorial dustwrapper; frontis.,viii,132pp. Textblock slightly worn on fore edge and toned w/ spot of soiling on top edge. Gift inscription on inner front endpaper, else pages clean and sound. Boards show mild wear, especially on edges and heel of spine; soiled along inner margins. Textblock and Boards Near Fine. Dustwrapper has some surface wear, toning, and soiling, with mostly minor tearing along edges. Crown of spine is fraying with some material loss; heel same to a lesser extent. Inner flaps soiled along upper margins; price clipped. Else Very Good. This is the first illustrated edition of Hilton's classic novel about an English schoolmaster. Illustrations are b/w, and include four plates and a frontispiece.
