About This Item
New York: Macmillan, 1957. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. Six volumes. 108 plates, with numerous textual illustrations and musical notations. New York: Macmillan, 1953-1957. Third edition, together with the revised edition of the American supplement. Expansive and essential musical reference, focusing primarily on classical music and musicians, but also including a fair amount of information on opera, world music, and musical instruments. Small ink stamp to the front flyleaves, with some minor wrinkling to the top corner of p.527-536 in v.5. Small tear to the spine head of v.2 and to the rear board of v.5. Jackets sunned along the spines and extremities, and slightly edgeworn, particularly v.5, with some general minor chips and tears; otherwise a sound and serviceable, very good set in a worn publisher's box, which is splitting along the joints and reinforced along the rear seams with tape.
