Prefaces (by Norman Davies, Jorge Semprum, and Sergei Kovalev); major sections documenting Solovki (a former Orthodox monastery on the Solovetsky Islands transformed into a prison camp in the 1920s), the White Sea Canal (a Stalin project of the early 1930s), the Vaigach Expedition (mining in the 1930s), Theater in the Gulag, Kolyma (gold mining, northeast Siberia, 1930s-1950s), Vorkuta (mining and industrial camp, northern Siberia, 1930s-1950s), and the Road of Death (building railroads through swamps, northern Siberia, 1940s-1950s). B&w photos. Condition notes: binding remains solid and sound on this large, heavy volume, light wear with spotty staining to boards, lower corners bumped; dust jacket shows a handful of closed tears to tail edge, with general light wear. Paul had been providing online booksales since 2008 through several popular online sales venues. In 2021 Paul was accepted as a member of the Independent Online Booksellers' Association (IOBA), and graduated from the annual Colorado Antiquarian Book Seminar (CABS-Minnesota).
