Originally Published in1726, Gulliver's Travels is the best-known title of Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World, by Lemuel Gulliver. a satire masterpiece written in the form of a journal by Jonathan Swift(1667-1745). It is a bitter satire, a tale of the four voyages of Lemuel Gulliver, a ship's surgeon. It appeals to younger reader's as a fantastic story of the Land of the Lilliput where people are 6 inches high and the Land of the Brobdingnag where the people are 60 feet high. Beneath the surface of this fantasy, is a devastating critique of human malevolence, stupidity, greed, vanity and short-sightedness. A brilliant combination of adventure, humor and philosophy. 18th century literature. Yellow cloth gilt blocked with gilt design within a black circle on front, black panel with gilt trim and lettering on backstrap.The letttering on the spine is rubbed with a streak down the center. Front gilt design very bright and sharp. Front very clean, spine and rear lightly soiled. Tight, solid and square. Lower rear corner bumped. Spine tail browned. All edges multi-colored speckled. Three bookplates on endpoaper, with the top one new. Internals are in Fine Condition----clean, numarked, no creases. 343 pages. 6.25 x 9.5 inches. Publisher: New York, The Heritage Press, 1940.

Synopsis

Gulliver's Travels (1726, amended 1735), officially Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World, in Four Parts. By Lemuel Gulliver, First a Surgeon, and then a Captain of several Ships, is a novel by Irish writer and clergyman Jonathan Swift that is both a satire on human nature and a parody of the "travellers' tales" literary sub-genre. It is Swift's best known full-length work, and a classic of English literature. The book became tremendously popular as soon as it was published.
