About This Item

Octavo 17.2x13.2 cm., wrappers, 36 pp., edition of 2000 copies. Cover design by G. Chikhladze. Daisali (Ivane Sergos vua Babuadze, 1901-1937) was a Georgian nationalist poet who was the founder and leader of the Somnambulist group of modernist poets during the years of Georgian independence (1917-1922). Sometime after the Soviets assumed control of Georgia, the group was seen as having ties with the Mensheviks and was suppressed. He was arrested numerous times in the 1920s as a subversive for protesting state suppression, jailed in 1929 and exiled for three years to Arkhangelsk in Northern Russia. Either murdered or a suicide sometime up to 1937, he was rehabilitated in 1968 The remarkable cover art was done by Gregol Chikhladze, of which nothing is known; it's assumed among historians that this is a pseudonym. With the author's autograph. Rare, no worldcat holdings found.
