New York: Harrison of Paris, 1934. Limited Edition . Hardcover. Very Good. Limited Edition, No. 475 of 895; SIGNED by Porter on title page; later issue with error corrected by a cancel; 8vo, rust cloth in green slipcase; vg (small stain on front board; faint black smudge and mark on rear board; spine sunfaded; spine ends bumped; small black mark on spine tail; eps and pages toning) in good+ slipcase (rubbed and worn; panels toned and sunned; chipping on and near foreedge; edges torn; corners bumped and worn; tears along edges). Also, included is The New Mexico Quarterly Review: Volume XV, No. 3, Autumn, 1945 which includes the article 'The Art of Katherine Anne Porter' by Vernon A. Young (good only: covers heavily creased; number written on front cover; tear to front joint; spine torn and splayed; spine ends chipped and torn).

Description:
Printed for F. Style. London.,1739. FIRST, AND ONLY, EDITION. 8vo. Front wrapper, ii,28pp. Lacking the half title but with the rare printed front wrapper (showing the price of Six Pence) laid down and bound in. Text complete. Top edge of pages have been cut and gilded, the others are untrimmed. Pages a bit marked and rubbed but overall a very good example. The original front wrapper has some small areas of loss to the edges and corners and has been professionally laid down. Bound in modern half red crushed morocco by C. Walters. Spine with raised bands, ruled in blind. Compartments lettered in gilt. Boards with dark red cloth. Burgundy endpapers. Previous owners bookplate (Douglas Peter Crossman, Earl Stonham) on front pastedown endpaper. Overall a very good copy of this uncommon political satire, mocking the supporters of George II and Prince James Stuart, the Old pretender. Not in Halkett & Laing.:

St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British.
