viii, 87 pages.

Very small loss of cloth to fore-edge of upper board and lower corners. Top lower board corner bumped. End-papers slightly browned. Neat ink inscription of a previous owner to the half-title, and book-seller's pencil notations to the front free end-paper. Numerous neat pencil notations to the margins of the section on Turkish books – possibly accession numbers?

Elias John Wilkinson Gibb (1857 - 1901) was a Scottish orientalist. With a knowledge of Arabic and Persian languages he became especially interested in Turkish language and literature. He was seen as a sympathetic and talented orientalist who, despite never visiting the regions that he studied, acquired a renowned library which, upon his death, passed to Cambridge University, the British Museum, and the British embassy at Constantinople.

A scarce copy of this handlist which is divided into five sections; Turkish books, Persian and Arabic texts, catalogues of oriental manuscripts, philology, and miscellaneous. There is also a preface by E. G. Browne, an appendix of Persian, Arabic and Urdu books from the Cowell collection, and an index of names of authors, editors and others mentioned in the list of Turkish books.

581 pages with facsimile imprints and index. Quarto (11" x 8 3/4") bound in original publisher's quarter leather with gilt lettering to spine in original jacket. This edition edited by A Millares Carlo. Limited to 2000 copies this is a reprint of the 1886 edition. The pride of Hispanic American scholars and collectors in the work of the sixteenth-century press of Mexico has found its reflection in a group of special bibliographies and bibliographical monographs of which one customarily speaks in superlatives. Without in any sense lessening the degree of praise accorded the other, it can be said that the greatest among them all is the Bibliografiamexicana del siglo XVIof Joaquin Garcia Icazbalceta, first published in a splendid volume in 1886. That book declared itself on every page to be one of the most distinguished bibliographical works of the century, a noble tribute to the press whose work it recorded. Description:
Hardback. Prentice Hall. USA. 1970. 'The Silent Sound of Needles' by Michael Zwerin. This book is a Hardback with dj. Third impression. SIGNED BY AUTHOR 'Michael' with dedication to previous owner 'Pat'. See scans. Scarce thus. Michael Zwerin was instrumental in the 'Cool Jazz' movement. A musician, businessman and writer, the author chronicles the struggle faced by those caught in the grip of drug addiction. Dj is slightly faded to spine with minor rub to top and bottom of spine. Fine, closed nick to back of dj, a little sunning to edges, but overall a very good, unclipped dj. Contents bear a long message from author to previous owner from his time when he lived in London. Otherwise contents are without other writing etc. An interesting item from someone who struggled with addiction himself. Not exlib and packed and sent with care.

Charlottesville: Bibliographical Society of America, 1980. hardcover, dust jacket. 6 x 9.25 inches. hardcover, dust jacket. 568 pages. To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the Bibliographical Society of America, this retrospective collection of articles seeks to represent, in the broadest possible way, the diverse contributions of the members of the Society to its Papers of the Bibliographical Society of America. The pieces demonstrate to the highest degree of excellence - articles of critical importance that have moved forward the art of bibliography. This volume contains 39 articles that strongly suggest that the practice of bibliography in America during the past three-quarters of a century cannot be easily categorized. Instead, the articles range over the entire spectrum of the world of books. An interesting characteristic of the selection is the preponderance of articles concerned with the relationship between books and people - especially with collectors rather than with those… Read More
