London; T Fisher Unwin, 1915., 1915. Hardcover. FIRST EDITION. Octavo. 309 pp, [3] advertisements. 32 photographic plates including frontispiece with tissue guard. Publisher's purple cloth with gilt titles to spine & upper board and gilt vignette to upper board. Spine sunned with minor wear head & tail and 1-inch split at rear joint; boards sunned top edge otherwise bright. A little toning to endpapers but contents clean & tight; no annotation or inscriptions. A Very Good copy. Scarce title written by a woman about the experiences of other women in cultures in the far East. The prolific American author (1877-1945) travelled extensively with her diplomat husband, and highlighted the very different lifestyles of especially Asian and Islamic women and the culture of the time.
