About This Item

This is a first edition (UK) of Haroun and the Sea of Stories, a children's novel written in 1990 by the British writer Salman Rushdie. After Iran's Ayatollah Khomeni issued a fatwa against Rushdie over The Satanic Verses two years earlier, Rushdie was in hiding, and under protection. This meant that he was separated from his son, and he wrote these stories for him. The boy was 12 at the time.

It is a phantasmagorical story that begins in a city so old and ruinous that it has forgotten its name, and it is an allegory for problems that exist in society, from the viewpoint of the young Haroun.

The dust jacket (unclipped) of this copy has minor shelfwear, mostly yellowing of the white corners on the inside flaps and back.

The book itself (218 pages) does not appear to have been read. There is a faint mark on the front cover--it's not a scratch and may come off. The outside of the pages edges have darkened a little. Otherwise perfect.
