Library stamp on title page, and scattered pencil scribbles and ink smudges here and there, not impacting the illustrations. Small hole torn in gutter of page 259. Features a 2-page spread depicting Joan of Arc having a vision; a giant portrait by Rembrandt of his wife Saskia; a picture of the future Queen Mary with her mother in a garden; obituaries for Walt Whitman and John Greenleaf Whittier, with portraits; installments of the novel WOLFENBERG by William Black; installments of a work by Thomas Hardy called THE PURSUIT OF THE WELL-BELOVED; and illustrations of buildings to be completed for the Columbian Exposition (Chicago World's Fair).
