First edition. One of 10,130 copies making up the first printing. The sourcework for the 1944 Howard Hawks classic film adaptation, starring Lauren Bacall, Humphrey Bogart, Walter Brennan, Hoagy Carmichael, et al. A VG+/VG copy of this rare first made even more so by having a splendid **HANDWRITTEN SIGNED LETTER** by Mr. Wilder. The HB is very clean and tight with just some browning on the end pages. The unclipped DJ has a small piece missing from the upper spine end, not affecting the title. There are a few tiny other chips now in mylar and protected. A very strong copy and a wonderful combo! BONUS BOOK: A very early ex--library copy of "Our Town" which appears to be dated from April 5, 1938, two months after its Broadway premiere. [Culver City]: The Selznick Studio, 22 October 1956.. [3],191 leaves. Quarto. Mimeographed typescript, printed on rectos only. Bradbound in canary yellow production company wrappers. Some minor spots of red offsetting to lower edge of upper wrapper, otherwise very near fine. An unspecified but substantially preproduction draft of Hecht's adaptation of Hemingway's novel of the Great War. It was the novel's second screen adaptation to reach production. This draft precedes John Huston's coming on board as director (and of course his departure, at which point Charles Vidor took over). This draft is nearly 20 leaves longer than several subsequent drafts. Rock Hudson and Jennifer Jones starred.
