Harper & Row, 1968. Hardcover. As New. Laurence Hoffman (jacket design). 227 pp. Yellow/gold cloth spine with Black and grey lettering. Remainder of cover black. DJ: Orange with crucifix illustration. Very light wear. First novel of Langguth. Constructed as series of episodes in which Jesus and his teachings proceed through various incarnations and crucifixions down to the present. Each can be read as an entitiy and many are full of a kind of off-beat wisdom. Psychologically, the book proceeds from a Jesus who is primarily concerned with the data of his own life and hours toward a beleaguered Jesus whose mind has come to rest on final things.
