Zijnde dese werken alomme vercierd met getrouwelijken naar oude marmorebeelden, gedenkpenningen, gesteentens, etc, getekende printen plaatkunst : En yder met sijn besondere Bladwijzers voozien. Dutch. Two volumes in one. Full calf boards, red spine label, gilt compartments, panel and medallion to boards. Speckled edges. [16], 432, [8], [8], 114, [2] pp. [6] engraved plates. Engraved title + typographic title page, several full-page engravings in-text. Foliated and grotesque head- and tail-pieces, inhabited and foliated initials. Text in two columns. Professionally rebound, original boards and spine, cloth hinge repair. Wear to spine label, rubbing to extremities, scuffs and cracking to calf boards. A few small spots of wear to edges. Outer edge gilt dentelle detailing has been significantly rubbed. Repairs to fore- and tail edge of half-title and engraved title. Some damp staining to endpapers, upper corner of some pages near front, and fore edge near rear. Light foxing and a few sporadic stains, offsetting, but text remains clear, readable, and free of annotations. Stub to p. 99 of second sequence. Volume one by Thomas Stanley (1625-1678) is a series of critical biographies of ancient Greek philosophers. Volume two by Basil Kennett is a treatment of ancient Greek poetry and literature, including Homer, Empedocles, Pindar, and others. STCN #175849730.
