Henry Fisher, 1822. Leather Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" 4 volumes, complete as issued. Bound in period 3/4 brown polished calf over marbled boards, spines with raised bands, paired black morocco labels and decorative tooling in blind (some rubbing to spines and boards; some foxing to text). Engraved frontis portrait; hand-colored engraved title page, plus plates. Total plate count is 40 hand-colored plates plus frontis and engraved title (42 total plates). Although sometimes cited with a publication date of 1822, the engraved plates in this edition have dates frrom 1822 to 1826.Color Plates.

Synopsis

A History of the Earth, and Animated Nature is a fascinating work of natural history. It was first published in 1774 in eight volumes, these volumes brought together a history of the earth with a description of its geographical features and species.  Oliver Goldsmith was a novelist, poet and journalist as well as the author of many works of natural history. He is now best known for his 1766 novel, The Vicar of Wakefield .
