About This Item

LONDON: Jacob Tonson, 1720 A good copy of 3rd enlarged edition of this scarce work, which was at one time, the standard work on english history. Complete in one volume. With frontispiece portrait of Echard; title page (an extremely good facsimile on high quality conservation grade paper); portrait of Georgius Rex; dedication to the King 6 pp; Preface 4 pp; Contents 4 pp; Introduction, books I-IV pp 1-408; Preface pp 409-412; Introduction p 416; books I-II pp 417-663; half title 'The History of England Vol the Second'; book III pp 667-766; Preface 2 pp; books I-III pp 769-1150; Index 33 pp. The binding is recent half morocco with marbled boards and title and author labels to spine. It is in near fine condition. The endpapers are new. There has been expert paper repair to strengthen the edges of the first and last few pages (presumably damaged when the original binding was failing). As indicated earlier the title page is a very good facsmile. The contents have some browned and marked sections, but the majority of pages are in good clean condition with some light toning to the paper. The top corner of p 378 is missing with no text loss. The decorative initial capitals and head and tailpieces are particularly fine.

About E C Books

E C Books is a small online bookselling business, specialising in pre 20th century works:natural history, science, history, and travel, aiming for rarer and more unusual books. Our largest stock area is Natural History, where we have a good range of books from the 1700-1800's, many finely illustrated. Other areas include children's books, particularly late 1800's-early 1900's - again illustrated; and literature pre 1900.When you order books from us we ensure that they are properly packed to protect condition, and we always use recorded or 'signed for' postal services for more secure delivery. Please note that we have recently moved to the beautiful Orkney Islands, where we intend to open a bookshop over the next year. Because of our location we cannot guarantee 'next day' delivery but we will get your purchase to you as quickly and safely as we can. Please note that the buyer is responsible for the payment of any tax or duty on import.
